2025 Club camp

Why do we push ourselves outside of our comfort zone? George Mallory, one of history’s most legendary mountaineers, once famously answered when asked why he wanted to climb Mount Everest:“Because it’s there”. Following the same spirit of conquer, adventure and passion, around 30 athletes from LFTC embarked on a plane to Spain for an epic week in Calpe.

Following in the legendary footsteps (or tire tracks) of cycling royalty… and attempting to steal Tadej Pogacar’s KOM on several mountain passes, the first rides were the perfect occasion to get familiar with the Spanish hills, the sun, and fellow LFTC friends while learning how to ride in groups under the kind supervision of experienced riders. Coffees are being discovered and pastries ranked.

What does make triathletes different from other athletes? The flexibility and the versatility! So when the occasion arises to ride to a reservoir for a collective open water swim, the creativity of triathletes has no limit, swimsuits are packed alongside gels, goggles replace cycling glasses, wet swimsuits are hanging on bikes, what a day of fun, sunshine, and incredible memories!

Early birds benefit from a stunning sunrise for an early open water swim in the sea, playing hide and seek with jellyfish, before enjoying a glorious breakfast. Calpe is a small gem on the Spanish coast, and taking a well deserved break from the bike, LFTCers decide to conquer the massive rock overlooking the city, a demanding and technical hike but the view is certainly worth it, as is the seafood enjoyed after it!

While the world was watching the election of a new pope, LFTC triathletes modernise the Apostle Thomas’ view of “I believe what I see” with “If it’s not on Strava, it never happened”. Club camp sees a record of new longest rides / highest elevations being registered, and what a better place than the South Eastern Spanish coast to achieve this? Col de rates, you did not disappoint!!

It is unclear Captain Jacob is a great fan of George Mallory, but when asked why the night out should be held in Benidorm, his answer was “Because it’s there”. Similar to the highest mountains, Benidorm is a peak of civilization, a place where everything goes downhill pretty fast (especially standards that nosedive faster than a triathlete in transition…) LFTC superheroes switch Vo2 max measurement with baby Guinness drinks.

While it’s already time to say goodbye to Calpe, there is still some space for the unlimited creativity of triathletes for the most incredible challenges to finish this club camp on a high!

We will never be thankful enough to the Club cup organisers Enora, Laura and Ryan for an incredible week of sports, friendship, sunshine, food, laugh, drinks and memories!
